Circumstance shouldn't decide what a life becomes.
SWABHAN Foundation runs two programs that work on that belief from different directions — one rebuilding physical independence after injury, the other building the capacity to think for oneself from childhood. Neither depends on what a family can afford.
OUR APPROACH
Two programs, one belief: ability shouldn't be gated by income.
A sharp child in a low-income classroom loses reasoning she was never taught to use. A stroke survivor who can't afford therapy loses movement he could have recovered. Neither is a gap in ability — both are gaps in circumstance. SWABHAN Foundation works on closing that gap wherever it shows up: in a classroom, or in a rehabilitation clinic.
Project Mimamsa runs a three-year inquiry program that teaches children how to think, not what to think. Project Saksham funds physical rehabilitation for people who survived a stroke, spinal injury or accident. Different disciplines, same conviction — that what a person becomes shouldn't be decided by what they can pay.
Our programs
Two independent programs, each with its own team, method, and way to help.
EDUCATION
Project Mimamsa
We teach children not what to think, but how to think.
A three-year inquiry program for children in Grades 6–8 from rural and low-income communities across Maharashtra — built around questioning, observing, and reasoning for themselves, not memorising answers.
REHABILITATION
Project Saksham
Their lives were saved. We help them become independent again.
Funds physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and assistive devices for stroke, spinal injury and accident survivors who can't afford the rehabilitation that lets them walk, work and live independently.
How we work, across both programs
The methods differ. The principles behind them don't.
Need decides support, not the other way round
Saksham evaluates each patient's real means before deciding what they contribute. Mimamsa is offered free, in the communities that need it most.
We work where people already are
In slums, villages, and low-income neighbourhoods — not in a facility people have to travel to reach, and not by waiting for people to come to us.
Long-term, not one-off
Rehabilitation runs for as long as recovery takes. The inquiry program runs for three years. Real change doesn't happen in a single session.
Support the program that speaks to you — or both.
Each program takes support differently, so giving works best directly on each program's own page. Here's where to go.
Support Mimamsa
A small, steady monthly contribution keeps the inquiry program running across all five sites in Maharashtra.
Give to Mimamsa →Support Saksham
Fund therapy sessions, splints and assistive devices for patients who've already been assessed and can't cover the full cost themselves.
